Watch Dave Chappelle Join John Mayer Onstage To Salute Charlie Murphy
The world got a little less funny yesterday. Charlie Murphy, one of the best to ever do it, passed in the morning after a long bout with leukemia. He was 57 years old.
The news was met with salutes from titans of comedy and entertainment at large, including The Murphy Family, Paul Mooney and Chris Rock amongst others. But his former co-star and collaborator, Dave Chappelle, wouldn't let the day go by without his own tribute. Last night, Chappelle joined frequent karaoke assistant, John Mayer, onstage at a show in Ohio, where the comedian sent up a few thoughts for the late Murphy brother, whose Hollywood stories became an iconic pillar in the Chappelle's Show legacy.
After Mayer performed "You're Gonna Live Forever In Me," Chappelle popped out from the wings to address the crowd, taking them through his day and the revelation of a dear friend passing.
“Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy. We love you, we love your comedy, we love your stories, and we love your spirit.”
Watch Dave Chappelle hit the stage with John Mayer to deliver a touching remembrance of the late Charlie Murphy in the clip below.
