The Final 'Eternals' Trailer Explains Why The Team Has Been Entirely Absent from The MCU
Marvel's Eternals is out on November 5th.
The Eternals plot is getting a bit clearer in the latest and final trailer for the upcoming Marvel film.
Released on Thursday morning, the nearly three-minute-long preview is our best look yet at the cosmic superhero team, who have apparently been on Earth for thousands of years, but were suspiciously absent from literally every event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until now. The trailer explains how and why the group remained off the radar for so long, positioning them as a last resort option for humanity. And now, with many of the primary players gone or otherwise indisposed in Marvel's still-growing multiverse, the group has resurfaced to protect the planet from the ancient threat they were brought in to handle in the first place; a demonic race of planet-eating creatures called "Deviants." The preview even plugs the "Thanos snap" hole by tying the sudden reappearance of half of the Earth's population to the resurgence of the Deviants.
There's also some great close-ups on the new team, offering detailed glimpses of Salma Hayek as Ajak, Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Game of Thrones' Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman (aka The Black Knight,) Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikarus, Barry Keoghan as Druig, and Ma Dong-seok as Gilgamesh. How the group factors into the long game for Marvel's big and small screen ambitions remains to be seen. But it won't be too long now before we get the change to put the pieces together.
