Japanese Trailer for 'The Batman' Offers First Look at Paul Dano's Riddler
The Batman will feature a number of new takes on classic antiheroes and foes of the caped crusader.
Months out from landing on big screens locally and abroad, The Batman campaign is well underway. And while we've gotten solid looks at Robert Pattinson's run as the new Bruce Wayne and Jeffery Wright as Commissioner Gordon, their opponents haven't gotten quite as much screentime in the first trailers and teasers for the film. However, a newly-released Japanese trailer for The Batman offers the best glimpse yet at the assortment of villainry poised to take on the caped crusader in the Matt Reeves-directed film.
Shared on Sunday via Youtube and Twitter, the new trailer gives fans a good glance at Colin Ferrel's Penguin and John Turturro's Carmine Falcone (both caked in prosthetics,) as well as on-again-off-again baddy Catwoman, who is portrayed by Zoe Kravitz in the upcoming reboot. But the star of the clip, hands down, is Gotham's new Riddler, who's played by Paul Dano and appears prominently both on and off-screen as a borderline narrator for the trailer.
Still in post-production, The Batman is expected to arrive in the Q1 of next year. Speaking with Total Films, Reeves confirms his ambition for the movie was to basically out-dark Christopher Nolan's acclaimed The Dark Knight. "This movie, I think, is probably the scariest Batman that’s been done. Because the idea of what Batman’s doing – it’s scary. Never been done in quite this way," Reeves told the publication. "It’s a detective story, it’s an action movie, and it’s a psychological thriller," the director added.
