The four minute video features Miranda alongside Nas, Dave East, and Aloe Blacc, as well as various scenes taken throughout New York City. Set in a black and white version of the city, the visuals finds the artists speaking on how they used their craft to get them out of their challenging upbringings.
"Wrote My Way Out" originally appeared on 2016's The Hamilton Mixtape. The music video serves as the second of two "Hamildrops" (basically a sequel to the mixtape) Miranda has released, with the first one being "Ben Franklin's Song," which featured the Decemberists. The band wrote the music to some leftover lyrics Miranda had prepared for the Hamilton musical but never used.
Last year came the news that Jay-Z was going to help Miranda bring his breakout play In the Heights to the big screen. However, since The Weinstein Company was tied to the project as well it is unknown what the status is of the adaptation.
