Watch 'Rick and Morty' Cheat Death (Again) in Season 5 Preview
Adult Swim shared a teaser for the show's next season at San Diego Comic-Con 2020.
Just a few months after capping a fourth season on Adult Swim, Rick and Morty is already previewing its next lap.
During his Comic-Con @Home panel, Rick and Morty co-creator, Dan Harmon, unveiled a first-look clip at a roughly animated scene from the show's upcoming fifth season. It finds the show's titular dimension-jumpers escaping a large and tentacled blob-ish monster in their spaceship. With Rick wounded and lamenting the prospect of only getting one life, Morty hops in the driver's seat and crash lands the ship in the ocean, only to meet Rick's new (?) nemesis, "Mr. Nimbus." Sadly, a release date for the new season was not mentioned.
The fourth season of Rick and Morty was split into a pair of five-episode blocks, the first premiering in late 2019, the second in spring of this year, when it made the jump to HBO Max, who bought streaming rights to the Adult Swim staple and Comedy Central's South Park with a landmark $500 million bid. It's unclear whether future seasons of Rick and Morty will also be halved, but all previous seasons of both shows are available on the new premium-tier streamer, where it joins The Boondocks (which is still slated for a reboot.)
San Diego Comic-Con's COVID-19-tailored @Home panels also included announcements from DC (new Batman villains,) Marvel (new Hulu series,) and Amazon (inking The Boys a third season,) along with confirmations of a live-action Mega-Man film and an official 12-issue sequel to the iconic Watchmen graphic novels.
