Watch Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman Try to Explain Wolverine's Role in 'Deadpool 3'
On Tuesday afternoon, Ryan Reynolds announced on his social media that Deadpool 3 will premiere in theaters on September 6, 2024.
Deadpool 3is almost here and the protagonist is tagging along a superhero guest. On Tuesday afternoon (September 27), the film's star Ryan Reynolds went to social media to reintroduce a former X-Men actor.
“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now,” Reynolds says, referencing the D23 Expo earlier this month. “I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
“Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds says to former X-Men actor Hugh Jackman who walks by in the clip.
“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies before Whitney Houston's “I Will Always Love You” is played, with a subtitle reading “I will always love Hugh."
Jackman last appeared as Wolverine in 2017 action-western Logan, based on comic series Old Man Logan. Spoiler alert – the titular character died in the film, so it's unclear how Wolverine will appear in Deadpool 3.
Deadpool and Wolverine's ties run deep, as Reynolds first appeared as the antihero in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first X-Men film to focus on the beast-like superhero. In 2016, Reynolds starred in the first Deadpool opposite Ed Skrein. In the film's sequel, an antihero team was created with Domino (Zazie Beetz), Firefist (Julian Dennison) and others.
Deadpool 3 premieres in theaters on September 6, 2024.
