Watch Tayla Parx, Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo & More In the First 'Spinning Gold' Trailer
Following the rise of independent label Casablanca Records, upcoming music film Spinning Gold releases in March 2023.
The official trailer for Spinning Gold has dropped and it features contemporary artists portraying 1970s artists including Donna Summers, George Clinton, Ron Isley of The Isley Brothers and more. Written, directed, and produced by Timothy Scott Bogart, the upcoming biographical music film recounts the origins of Casablanca Records under founder Neil Bogart, which struck big in the 1970s. Bogart was credited with bringing acts like Kiss, the Village People and Donna Summer to fame, also catapulting the established careers of Gladys Knight and the Pips and the Isley Brothers.
"Along with a rag tag team of young music lovers, Neil and Casablanca Records would rewrite history and change the music industry forever," reads the synopsis. "Their mix of creative insanity, a total belief in each other and the music they were creating, shaped our culture and ultimately defined a generation."
While Bogart is played by Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan, modern artists pay tribute to artists of the past with Wiz Khalifa as George Clinton, Jason Derulo as Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Pink Sweat$ as Bill Withers. Also in the film are Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Tayla Parx as Donna Summer and multi-Grammy winner Ledisi as Gladys Knight.
In the aftermath of its post-'70s decline, Casablanca Records is now housed under the Universal Music Group as sub-label of Republic Records, pushing on dance and electronic music.
Spinning Gold is scheduled to release on March 31, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
