DOOM Shirks Adult Swim with New Westside Gunn Collaboration "Gorilla Monsoon"
DOOM with the classic misdirection(?)
In today's episode of the ongoing (and increasingly unpredictable) DOOM saga, the master vanishing act reemerges, as promised, with Westside Gunn as WESTSIDEDOOM on "Gorilla Monsoon."
The collaboration, announced by the Buffalo rapper a few weeks back with a preview of the track on Instagram, arrives just hours after the early cancellation and (virtual erasure) of DOOM's 15-week Missing Notebook Rhymes campaign with Adult Swim, which saw the release of new collaborations with Jay Electronica, Alchemist, Kool Keith and the late Sean Price, and with them, the promise of a new KMD album as well. This is kinda par the course for DOOM, though, and a song-per-week for 15 certainly presented itself as an ambitious venture with hip-hop's greatest known escape artist, though it was fruitful. That said, fans shouldn't sleep on the Daringer-produced, "Gorilla Monsoon," as it is easily DOOM at his sharpest. Gunn tells Hypebeast that there's another on the way with production from Alchemist, and that we shouldn't get our hopes up for anything more than that.
