The Vermont senator also briefly touched on A$AP Rocky's current situation in Sweden. The Harlem rapper has been charged with assault and stems from a fight that occurred in Stockholm on June 30th. The rapper, along with two associates, have been in custody since July 3. The three will remain in custody until the trial. Next week, a date will be announced for the trial.
Donald Trump has tried — albeit unsuccessfully — to assist in Rocky's case, even tweeting that Sweden has "let our African American Community down in the United States" because Sweden's government hasn't involved itself in the case. (A spokesperson previous said that the Swedish judicial system, prosecutors, and courts are separate from the government and the government "cannot and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings.")
Halfway through his conversation with Kimmel, Sanders was asked what he is going to do to help Rocky get out of Sweden.
"Not much at the moment," Sanders said.
From there, the conversation shifted to Sanders' relationship with Cardi B.
"She is really smart and she is deeply concerned about what is happening in this country. That's the truth, she comes from a humble background ... she wants to make sure that we can improve life for working people in this country," Sanders said.
