There are several parts of the Wrapped campaign that display a listener's top artists, top songs, and top genre, as well as the amount of minutes one has spent listening to music on Spotify. Along with people sharing similar top artists and songs, they share similar top genres, including one titled "pop rap." It's this labeling that has led to people on social media debating what pop rap is.
Some people seem to be taking offense to the labeling, while others have acknowledged that pop is short for "popular" and rap music is a popular music genre.
It's worth noting though that Spotify did include a genre labeled "rap," further adding to the debate of how people view pop rap.
It's too late to try and switch your pop rap label for a solely rap one, but you can try and get a head start for the new year. Jay-Zrecently put his entire discography — including The Blueprint,American Gangster and 4:44— back on Spotify. Before that, you could only listen to Reasonable Doubt, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1and Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life and other Jay side projects on the platform.
