Here's Who's Playing The Banks Family in The 'Fresh Prince' Reboot
The cast of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot is filling out.
With the role of Will officially filled, Peacock has moved on to casting the rest of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's iconic crew for an upcoming reboot of the series.
According to a Deadline report, the dramatic relaunch of the revered '90s sitcom has found a new Banks family to support Jabari Banks in succeeding Will Smith in the titular role. At That Age's Adrian Holmes will be the Banks patriarch, carrying the torch for the late James Avery as the next Uncle Phil. Atlanta's Cassandra Freeman is set to follow Janet Hubert and Daphne Maxwell Reid's Aunt Viv. Run Hide Fight's Olly Sholotan will presumably provide a more stoic take on Carlton. Let It Shine's Coco Jones will portray retail therapist, Hillary Banks. And Akira Akbar will come of age as the next Ashley Banks.
As for the non-Banks cast members, Geoffery is being handed off to Jimmy Akingbola, Nia Long's Lisa will be played by Simone Joy Jones, and Jordan L. Jones is set to get tossed from the house as the next Jazz.
Set in modern-day Los Angeles, the incoming recalibration of Fresh Prince has been picked up for two seasons out the gate and is inspired by Morgan Cooper's viral spec trailer for a starkly serious version of the show. The reboot is being executive produced by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith under the couple's Westbrook Studios banner and Universal. A premiere date has yet to be announced, but with the main cast now in place, production shouldn't be too far down the line.
Hold tight for updates on the Fresh Prince reboot in the months ahead. In the meantime, you can stream the full run of the original series on HBO Max.
