Ahead of the show's 30th anniversary (the first episode aired back on September 10, 1990), Smith brought together Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Joseph Marcell and DJ Jazzy Jeff to talk about the show and share memories they have about being on it.
The reunion aired in two parts, with the second part featuring Reid sharing how she initially turned down an audition for the series before becoming Aunt Viv in its fourth season.
"We've never really had the conversation about what it must have been [like] for you coming into this cast," Smith says to Reid as she explains why she didn't audition.
"I don't think you know that in '93, when you guys started auditioning originally, that they said, 'Oh, we want you to go to the studio and audition with this young rapper,'" Reid says.
"I turn on the television and I saw this show called The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, I said 'Damn!'"
Elsewhere in the episode, the cast also reminisces on the late James Avery, as well as played some of his most memorable and touching moments from the show.
Prior to this, Smith spoke with Jazzy Jeff for one of his episodes, where the DJ talked about contracting COVID-19 and recovering from the virus. Jazzy Jeff explained how, after returning home from a trip, he started "coming down with something."
"Got in the bed, don’t remember the next 10 days," the DJ said. "My temperature had reached about 103, the chills, I lost smell, I lost sense of taste."
In that same episode, the pair also put on a virtual performance of the 1988 hit "Brand New Funk."
