Wyclef Answers "The Questions" For Okayplayer TV
Pop star, Fugees founder and Haitian presidential contender Wyclef Jean is a man of consequence--both within the world of music and within the world of the real world. So when we heard that Clef was doing a rare run of intimate press conversations to support his historic appearance at Jamaica's legendary clash-driven concert Sting over the holidays, we jumped at the chance to pick his brains on some burning questions. You know, "The Questions"--What did the late, great Nelson Mandela mean to you? Please rate your favorite dancehall artists and soundclashes in order (Super Cat, Ninja Man, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man)? Is kompa music ready to take over the world yet? What's the Haitian equivalent of ackee & saltfish? Did chicken draws really become dead draws stealing chickens from your farm? Now that You, The Roots, Lauryn Hill,Kanye West and Dave Chappelle are all touring at roughly the same time...can we call up Michel Gondry to get the band back together for Block Party 2 The Electric Boogaloo????
Of course in a case like this, we had to call up our Caribbean-speaking translatorz crew over at LargeUp to help walk us through some of the finer points of ackee vs. bannan frie and kompa vs. clashin'. Hit the link below to go even deeper into antillean waters on matters like Wyclef's recipe for kremás and whether or not his Michael Jackson dubplates are real. It's "The Questions," bwai.
