Pass The Popcorn: Yelling To The Sky f/ Zoe Kravitz & Tariq Trotter [Trailer & Poster]
Yelling To The Sky--starring Zoe Kravitz, Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter and Gabourey Sidibe, among other notables--is the promising debut from upcoming filmmaker and Sundance Institute alumnus Victoria Mahoney. According to the official press release:
Kravitz stars as Sweetness O'Hara, an introspective and shy teenager who tries to blend into the crowded halls of her high school. But an increasingly complex home life and a growing threat at school soon carry her into a world of reckless ambivalence.
Which leaves a whole lot to the imagination. But I'll just add that early screenings on the festival circuit (starting with last year's Berlin Film Festival) generated some controversy and point out the key words IMDB has tagged it with: Domestic Violence | Teen Angst | Drug Use | Revenge | Father Daughter Relationship. This quiet but tense onscreen moment between Tariq and Zoe provides some more clues (watch below) but ultimately leaves as many questions as it answers...so I guess you got to watch the movie to know what's really going on. The film opens in New York this Friday, December 14th with a rollout to other major markets to follow, as well as plans for a release on cable video-on-demand. Stay tuned. Pass the popcorn.
