"Music Don't Feel the Same:" Young M.A. Sparks Debate About the State of R&B
"Everything is leanin one way so it gets played out quick!"
Brooklyn rapper Young M.A. sparked a Twitter discussion about the state of R&B on Monday. It all started with a simple tweet. "Music don't feel the same because we barely have R&B," she began. "R&B [brought] that balance to music..now everything is leanin one way smh so it gets played out quick! We need R&B for the balance no kap [SP]!"
The tweet garnered mixed responses. One user disagreed, citing Jhene Aiko, Kehlani, and Summer Walker as examples to the contrary. M.A. replied affirmatively, saying that the genre needed more acts to fulfill the balance.

Other users offered the counterpoint that the best modern-day R&B just isn't mainstream, and further, not influenced by gospel and soul. Some fans cited experimental vocalists like Brent Faiyaz, 6LACK, Daniel Caesar, and SIR.
Even Diddy joined in on the conversation, shamelessly plugging the forthcoming reboot of the Making the Band series. He stated that he was in the lab, focusing on his mission "to bring true R&B back...to create two of the biggest R&B groups."
