HPrizm - Magnetic Memory

Anti-Pop Consortium co-founder HPrizm aka High Priest drops the thirteen-track solo project Magnetic Memory featuring contributions from James Brandon Lewis, Heru Shabaka and Shawn Keys.

Composed and recorded throughout last year, Magnetic Memory is guided by Prizm’s desire to reconnect with a more traditional approach to sampling. That is to say, sampling as a primary element of composition. In constructing Magnetic Memory’s rhythms and atmospheres, Prizm chose to work within the technological constraints of his earliest days as a producer. It’s not about nostalgia. It’s about applying old constraints to new technology in an effort to reconnect with a voice.

Ricky Mapes - Save Yourself

Bronx rapper/producer Ricky Mapes’ Spring 2018 release Save Yourself gets a bump ahead of his forthcoming album produced by Trox.

Fear, paranoia, anxiety, moments of honesty & vulnerability while still being optimistic for the future are what make up this project. It was therapeutic making this body of work as it helped me get a lot of different thoughts and ideas off my chest and out of my head. Sentiments I’ve never been able to express in conversation, I was able to express musically here and it was one of the best feelings I’ve ever felt. This project was for me, but if it winds up being for you too, then that’s just a bonus. - MAPES
