Skyzoo and Pete Rock team up to make Retropolitan, "a very New York album — on purpose."

Brooklyn rapper Skyzoo's newest LP was crafted by a living legend. In his first release since 2018's In Celebration of Us, the Crown Heights native enlisted the Bronx's Pete Rock for the entirety of Retropolitan's production.

In a conversation with HipHopDX, Skyzoo explained the inspiration behind the project.

The album is a very New York album — on purpose. When you’re working with somebody like Pete Rock, that’s what it’s going to be,” he says. “As opposed to just the feel, I wanted to make it about New York. A lot of these songs are about the city back then … the things that happened, the things that were going on and how they affect certain things now.

The 12-track LP, released on Mello Music Group, features heavyweights like Styles P, Elzhi, Raheem DeVaughn, Westside Gunn, Conway, and Benny the Butcher.
