Bilal’s Concert Film Featuring Questlove, Common and Robert Glasper Premieres Today

Bilal: Live at Glasshaus was filmed last year with a studio audience of 100 fans.

Today, Bilal is dropping a live concert film from a performance he put on last year.

Titled Bilal: Live at Glasshaus, the film is a little over an hour and features Bilal performing beloved songs like “1st Born Second,” “Airtight’s Revenge” and “Love for Sale,” as well as interviews from collaborators and fellow Soulquarians like Questlove and Common.

“This film is a love letter to one of the great vocalists of our time,” Jarrett Wetherell, the director, producer and editor of the film, as well as the founder of Glasshaus, said in a statement. “Bilal delivers a sense of vulnerability in his performance and interview that we rarely see from artists today. It’s raw in a way that puts you inside the studio with these five legends. Glasshaus couldn’t be more proud to present this work in service of Bilal.”

The concert was filmed on Dec.2, 2023, with an audience of 100 fans. Alongside Wetherell, Chase Smith — who has worked with The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and SZA — handled the cinematography.

“Unlike typical large-venue productions, the concert replaces distance with intimacy — seating the in-studio audience at the feet of the performers. The film captures the sweat, emotion and improvisation that make this performance a singular moment in Bilal’s career,” the press release states. “Moments of musical interplay, especially seen through the split-screen cinematography, highlight the synergy between the musicians — their fingers on the fretboards and their eyes locked in improvisation.”

Back in June, the concert was released as an album. Fans can purchase a limited edition vinyl release of the performance on Glasshaus’ website.

In September, Bilal released his eighth studio album, Adjust Brightness. You can watch Glasshaus performance for yourself below.
