Anderson .Paak is making his directorial debut. The musician is set to direct upcoming comedy-drama film K-POPS! which will also star him alongside his son, Soul Rasheed. Also developed with rapper Jon “Dumbfoundead” Park, .Paak co-wrote the film Khaila Amazan and will co-produce it under his company Apeshit Films.
Deadline reports that K-POPS! will follow “a washed-up musician who travels to Korea to write for K-pop stars, discovering that his long-lost son is set to front one of the country’s hottest new groups.” Upon discovering his son, the musician then attempts to relaunch their career but finds that fatherhood is more important and meaningful than fame.
“My mom is from Korea but she was adopted so I never knew anything about my Korean heritage until I met my wife. This movie is a reflection on my experience learning about this part of myself alongside my wife and son – and spending even more time with them!,” .Paak said in a statement. “I knew this would be something I should write and direct, and Stampede Ventures took a chance and trusted that I could pull this off. I’m excited to bring it to the big screen.”
In March, .Paak made a clean sweep at the 94th Grammy Awards as one-half of Silk Sonic with Bruno Mars, where the duo won four Grammys – including Record of the Year and Song of the Year – for "Leave the Door Open." Silk Sonic is currently performing their Las Vegas residency 'An Evening With Silk Sonic,' which will continue until May 29th.
