Black Lives Matter UK Activist Sasha Johnson in Critical Condition After Being Shot in London

Sasha Johnson reportedly received numerous death threats as a result of her activism.

Early Sunday morning Sasha Johnson, a Black Lives Matter UK activist based in London was rushed to a local hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to her head near a house party in the borough of Southwark. Johnson's political party, the Taking the Initiative Party, announced the news on its Facebook page.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you that our own Sasha Johnson has sustained a gunshot wound to her head," the Party said in a statement. "She is currently hospitalised and in a critical condition. The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, following numerous death threats."

London Metropolitan Police released a statement saying there was no evidence that the shooting was a targeted attack, nor that Johnson "had received any credible threats against her prior to this incident."

On Monday morning, the TTIP announced that Johnson had undergone an operation and is currently resting with her parents. A mother of three, the group called Johnson a "strong powerful voice for our people and our community."

Harriet Harman, a member of the Labour Party wished Johnson a full recovery, and called for authorities to investigate threats made against her. "Who carried out this dreadful shooting of Sasha Johnson needs to be caught quickly," she said. "Give any info you have to @MPSSouthwark. Reported death threats will need to be investigated."

Black Lives Matter UK is hosting a vigil for Johnson on Monday afternoon, outside Kings' College Hospital in South London.
