Here's Everything We Know So Far About 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'

Here's everything we know about the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which premieres in November.

In light of Chadwick Boseman's death in August 2020, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that T'Challa would not be recast in the long-awaited Black Panther sequel. Instead, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be helmed by original cast members Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba and Winston Duke, along with newcomers Michaela Coel and Dominique Thorne.

On Saturday (July 23), stars of the Black Panther sequel appeared at the Marvel Studios portion of the San Diego Comic-Con to unveil the first trailer for the forthcoming film, which premieres on November 11. Soundtracked by a rendition of Bob Marley and the Wailers' 1974 classic "No Woman, No Cry" from Tems, and "Alright" by Kendrick Lamar, Wakandans mourn the loss of T'Challa while Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M'Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje band together to protect their nation.

“We put our love for Chadwick into this film. We also put our passion," Black Panther director Ryan Coogler said during SDCC. "This film has a ton of action and humor. It’s also a roller coaster of a movie. It goes to new places in Wakanda that we’ve never been before but other corners of the MCU.”

As fans anxiously await the film's release — which will also conclude Phase Four — here's everything we know about the Black Panther sequel.

The film will tackle the loss of T'Challa

After the sequel's official trailer premiered at SDCC, a synopsis was also released, explaining that the film will follow the death of Wakandan King T'Challa/Black Panther. Wakanda Forever will also be in remembrance of Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020 at 43-years-old. The synopsis can be read below:

"Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livanalli."

Tems will be on the film's OST

While the inaugural Black Panther soundtrack was curated by Kendrick Lamar, it appears that Tems will be on the soundtrack for the sequel with her rendition of "No Woman, No Cry." The Nigerian singer will also appear on Beyoncé's forthcoming album Renaissance, which releases Friday (July 29).

Wakanda Forever will conclude Phase Four of the MCU

During SDCC, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that along with She-HulkWakanda Forever would end Phase Four of the MCU, which began with Disney+ series Wandavision early last year. In February 2023, Phase 5 will be introduced by Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and end with Thunderbolts in 2025.

Daniel Kaluuya will not reprise his role as W'Kabi

Nope star Daniel Kaluuya, who played T'Challa's Border Tribe chief and confidant W'Kabi, will not return for Wakanda Forever. The news was confirmed by Jacqueline Coley of Rotten Tomatoes, who revealed that the British actor had scheduling conflicts with Nope, which made a splash at the box office with $44 million in sales during its opening weekend. It's unknown if W'Kabi will be recast or not.

Aneka and Ironheart will be introduced

In Wakanda Forever, British actress Michaela Coel will star as Aneka, combat instructor of the Dora Milaje, while Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams/Ironheart, the successor to Iron Man. The film will precede forthcoming Disney+ series Ironheart, which will star Thorne.
