Black Thought, DJ Premier and More Team Up as the Supergroup Dopamine

Black Thought dropped the news during an interview with The Crate 808 podcast.

It's been a pretty busy year for Black Thought. Fresh off the release of Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane and Able, The Roots' frontman has shown up on tracks with Statik Selektah, Common, and British singer Liam Bailey in the past couple of months. In a recent interview with The Crate 808 Hip-Hop Podcast, Thought revealed he's working on even more material. Stream the full conversation below.

In the interview, Thought unveiled Dopamine, a supergroup assembled by T-Bone Burnett. Members include Elvis Costello, DJ Premier, Nathaniel Rateliff and Cassandra Wilson.

"A really unusual sort of motley crew," Thought admitted. "It's weird how the songs come to be. Essentially live instrumentation, Premier is right there and he sorta takes it and chops it up."

Costello is no stranger to working with Black Thought. Back in 2013, he teamed up with The Roots to drop Wise Up Ghost, a full-length LP. "It goes without saying that Elvis is legendary," Questlove would tell Billboard.  He called the experience "beyond my wildest dreams" and "the ultimate bucket list check."

Thought also revealed that he and Premier have recorded songs "with the intention of using it as an upcoming [Streams of Thought] volume." He also says he's recorded an album worth of tracks with Q-Tip. This news follows the reveal of the forthcoming project with Danger Mouse he spoke about in October.

Stay tuned for further updates regarding new releases from Black Thought, Dopamine, and The Roots.
