Blue Ivy Carter Got Herself A Job
The 8-year-old Carter narrates the audiobook of Matthew A. Cherry's Hair Love.
On Monday, author and film director Matthew A. Cherry took to Twitter for a special announcement. His Oscar-winning short film "Hair Love" has arrived on audiobook with a special narrator: Blue Ivy Carter. Cherry announced the news with a clip of the 8-year-old Carter's introduction of the book.
The book, about an African-American father attempting to style his daughter's hair for the first time, won an Academy Award in 2020 for best animated short film. The project was originally released as a children's book last May. Vashti Harrison provided illustrations for the book.
The short film, which was co-produced with Karen Rupert Toliver, is also in the process of being developed into an animated TV show at HBO Max called "Young Love." The platform has signed on for a 12-episode season of the show. Carl Jones (who previously wrote for The Boondocks and Black Dynamite) will serve as a showrunner for the new series.

"I am beyond excited to continue telling the story of Stephen, Angela and Zuri and further explore the family dynamics of a young Black millennial family we established in our short film Hair Love as an animated series," Cherry said back in July. "Couldn't ask for better partners in Sony Pictures Animation and HBO Max in helping us get Young Love out to the world."
Blue Ivy Carter has already won the BET Her Award in 2020 for the song "Brown Skin Girl." The win made her the youngest recipient of a BET award.
