Tony Rock Says Will Smith Never Contacted Chris Rock to Apologize

In a recent Big Boy’s Neighborhood interview, Tony Rock claimed that Will Smith didn’t contact Chris Rock days after slapping him at the 2022 Oscars.

Tony Rock is coming to his older brother’s defense yet again. During a recent appearance on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, the comedian, 54, claimed that Will Smith didn’t contact Chris Rockdays after slapping him onstage at the 2022 Oscars. In a five minute apology video shared to the internet last summer, Smith suggested otherwise.

"That wasn't true, that wasn't true," Rock said on the radio show. "I think like, two nights later, he said, 'I reached out to Chris, and he didn't want to talk.' That wasn't true."

Tony Rock, who starred in the Smith-produced UPN sitcom All of Us, also said he was surprised that he didn’t hear from the Emancipation actor.

"He doesn't owe me anything, I just thought we were better than that," he said. "My phone number has never changed. So, I just thought I'd get a phone call one day like, 'Ay, let's just you and I just talk.' It hasn't happened, so I guess it's not going to happen."

Rock also said that Smith’s outburst last March was likely to him being dubbed “soft” by the public. “He’s soft, Jada [Pinkett Smith] won’t let Tupac die, it’s always something about Tupac and his daughter [Willow Smith] brought up Tupac,” he said. “And I’m not bringing up family stuff that people don’t know… this is stuff that everybody knows.”

Despite speaking on his brother’s behalf, the older Rock spoke his piece on the recent Netflix comedy special Selective Outrage. At the stand-up event, Rock criticized both Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, although he said at the 2022 Oscars that he would never speak about the Girls Trip actress again.

“His wife was fucking her son’s friend. I normally would not talk about this shit… I have no idea why two talented people would do something that fucking lowdown,” he said on the Netflix special. “We’ve all been cheated on. Everybody in here been cheated on. None of us has ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us… on television. She hurt him way more than he hurt me.”

Although The Smiths have not publicly spoken about Selective Outrage, a member of Pinkett Smith’s team said the actress was offended by his jokes.
