Chris Rock on Oscars Slap: "I’m Not Talking About That Until I Get Paid"

On Friday, during a Indio stop on his Ego Death World Tour, Chris Rock joked that he'll eventually talk about being slapped at the Oscars.

Chris Rock's lips are sealed – at least for now. On Friday, while performing at Fantasy Springs Resort-Casino in Indio, California, the comedian teased when he'll talk about the Oscars Slapgate.

“I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good. I got my hearing back,” Chris Rock said, per Deadline.

As phones are prohibited at Rock's shows during Ego Death World Tour 2022, no footage from his set has been seen.

During a sold-out Boston stop of his stand-up tour last month, Rock first addressed the incident, opening the show with a two-minute standing ovation.

“How was your weekend?” Rock began.

“I don’t have a bunch of s*** about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that s***. And it will be serious and funny.”

The comedian brushed off heckling from crowd members who've chanted  “f*** Will Smith” during shows, but his brother, fellow comedian Tony Rock, had a lot to say about Will Smith during a recent stand-up performance.

“If you think you gonna to walk up on this stage, this ain’t the muthafuckin' Oscars!” Tony said, per Page Six. “And if you walk your ass up here, you ain’t nominated for shit but these muthqfuckin' hands! Oh, we going to pop the rest of the year, nigga. Every time you see me do a show, pop!

During the Oscars last month, Rock made an off-color joke that didn't sit well with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, targeting the latter about her shaved head. Will Smith approached the stage while Rock was presenting the nominations for Best Documentary Feature, slapping him before returning to his seat and demanding that he never speak of Pinkett Smith again.

Will Smith has since made an apology statement following the incident, which he posted on his Instagram.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong,” Smith wrote. “I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
