If all goes as planned, Disney will release the film in early November 2021.

It's not often that the Caped Crusader switches sides. However, Collider has learned that The Dark Knight Trilogy star Christian Bale is in talks to join the newest phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, Bale will potentially join the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi. In the wake of Robert Pattinson's coronation as the new Bruce Wayne, Bale is free to move between studios.

Bale hasn't been officially involved with any comic book franchise since The Dark Knight trilogy wrapped, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Bale "flirted with a role" in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Between the second and third Dark Knight installments, Bale won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar Award for his role in The Fighter. After wrapping up his role as Bruce Wayne, he earned nominations for his roles in Vice, American Hustle and The Big Short. Bale's latest film, the racing drama Ford v Ferrari, is up for a Screen Actors' Guild Award for Best Actor.

According to Collider, familiar faces from the MCU's Thor franchises will return for the latest addition. Tessa Thompson will appear as Valkyrie once again, while Natalie Portman returns as Jane Foster. Portman's character will reportedly claim the title Goddess of Thunder. Waititi himself will voice the character of Korg, who debuted in Thor: Ragnarok.

Bale's representatives have neither confirmed nor denied Collider's report at this time.
