'Coming 2 America' Is No Longer Dropping In December

Coming 2 America is now set for March 2021.

Last month it was announced that Coming 2 America had been acquired by Amazon Studios and was going to hit Amazon Prime on December 18. Now, the film will be hitting the streaming service early next year.

In a report from Variety, the sequel to the 1988 original film is now set for March 5, 2021. In Coming 2 America, Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as Prince Akeem, who is set to become king of Zamunda when he discovers a son he never knew back in America – a Queens native named Lavelle. Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones will reprise their roles from the 1988 film, while SNL stalwarts Tracy Morgan and Jay Pharoah will join the cast.

"'Coming to America' was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time," Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said. "Thanks to Eddie Murphy’s comedic genius along with the brilliant filmmakers, writers and fabulous cast, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this new adventure. We know audiences around the world will fall in love with this hilarious, joyful movie that will surely become a timeless favorite."

"What could be better than a return to Zamunda? We are so excited for Amazon Studios to bring Eddie Murphy and 'Coming 2 America' to a worldwide audience where they can laugh again with characters they have loved for 30 years, and meet new ones that they will love for years to come," producer Kevin Misher said.
