One of the most highly anticipated movies of the year just received another official trailer,Coming 2 America. If you’ve been missing the chemistry between Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, you’ll find the clip enjoyable. Also, if you’re a fan of Soul Glo, McDowell’s, and Zamunda buckle up for the long-awaited sequel to John Landis’ 1988 cult classic.
Since the movie is set 30 years after the original, it follows Akeem (Murphy) prepping to be crowned the king of Zamunda. Needless to say, things aren’t going as planned as when he left his trip to Queens, he also left Mary (Leslie Jones) pregnant with his heir, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler).
The trailer provides a glimpse into Lavelle returning to Zamunda with his father who has to explain to his family that he left a son he didn’t know about in America. Seeing the rest of the former cast members return is nostalgic at best: James Earls Jones, Shari Headley, Paul Bates, and John Amos. New faces that appear include Tracy Morgan, Teyana Taylor, KiKi Layne, and Wesley Snipes.
Craig Brewer directed the sequel while Kenya Barris, David Sheffield and Barry W. Blaustein co-wrote. Murphy and Kevin Misher are credited as producers.
Coming 2 America will be available on March 5, 2021 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
