'Daredevil', 'Luke Cage' & Other Marvel Shows Heading to Disney+

Beginning March 16th, episodes from Marvel shows DaredevilLuke CageJessica Jones and more will stream exclusively on Disney+.

On Tuesday, it was announced that former Netflix-Marvel comic book series DaredevilLuke CageJessica JonesIron FistThe Punisher and The Defenders will air exclusively on Disney+ starting March 16th.

The former Netflix shows left the platform on February 28th after series rights reverted back to Disney. ABC's Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which had seven seasons, will also be a part of the Disney+ merger.

According to Variety, the shows were first branded as "Netflix Originals” when they launched on the platform. Once Netflix’s licensing deal ended, this allowed the shows to either move to Hulu or Disney+ and the latter was chosen. Some titles, including Daredevil, will include a parental controls update to Disney+ as the content is more violent and mature than child-oriented features.

“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place,” said Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming, in a statement. “We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family.”

The "Netflix Originals" began in April 2015 with Daredevil, which was cancelled in 2018 along with the other shows. Daredevil star Charlie Cox reprised his beloved role as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home in December. However, the film will not be on Disney+, as it was produced by Sony.

All seven of the Marvel series will be available in the U.S. market of Disney+ on March 16th. Later this year, the venture will expand to the remaining global Disney+ markets.
