Dave Chappelle received the key to the city of Washington, D.C., on Friday.

According to a report from The Georgetowner, Chappelle was at his alma mater, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, when he received the honor from Mayor Muriel Bowser.

"Some very special native Washingtonians have dedicated their lives to making Washington, D.C. better, and they've gone above and beyond to show others what makes the nation's capital the best city in the world," Bowser said. "Dave Chappelle reminds us what it means to live a life filled with purpose, meaning, and laughter."

Accepting the key Chappelle took the stage in the school's auditorium and proceeded to talk to the students.

"$170 million is a lot to spend on your future...Success is your choice," Chappelle said. "Your high school friends will be friends for life...I wanted to b a comedian. So, I knew I needed to learn acting. I used to mop the stage."
