Donald Glover Announces New Balance Collab With Animated Short

Releasing New Balance sneaker the RC30, Donald Glover has debuted his new shoe collaboration with an animated short visual.

Donald Glover is officially the newest member of the New Balance family. To celebrate their brand's new sneaker,  the RC30, on Thursday (July 7), the multihyphenate creator shared a three-minute short film on his Instagram. The visual follows a pair of anthropomorphic ad executives who plan a campaign for the RC30, giving viewers a digital look at the sneaker's silhouette.

With elements of New Balance's Trackstar model, the RC30 pays homage to the brand's vintage running shoe design, featuring mixed material upper made of nylon and suede. In two colorways of "Golden Hour” and “Sea Salt,” the short film also teases a possible third colorway.

“With celebrity-endorsed sneakers coming out every weekend, we thought Donald was a good collaborator for New Balance to take a more considered approach,” said Joe Grondin, Business Unit Manager – Global Collaborations & Energy Projects at New Balance. “No loud colors or branding, just classic, easy-to-wear colorways of a new silhouette that fit Donald’s style.”

The New Balance RC30 drops on Friday (July 8) on Market by Gilga, while the sneaker will also have a global launch through New Balance and select retailers on July 18th.

Glover wrapped up the third season of Atlanta in May, but the creative mogul is set to release projects with Amazon Studios. Currently filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Glover is also working on a series with Malia Obama as a screenwriter and a secret project which will star Chloe Bailey, Damson Idris and Dominique Fishback.
