Fat Joe Calls Out Irv Gotti For How He Talked About Ashanti on 'Drink Champs'

Irv Gotti aired out his alleged relationship with Ashanti on a recent episode of Drink Champs.

Irv Gotti's revelation about about former Murder Inc. Records vocalist Ashanti is looking funny in the light. On a recent episode of Drink Champs, where rapper-actor Ja Rule also appeared, Gotti opened up about his alleged relationship with Ashanti to promote his upcoming five-part BET documentaryThe Murder Inc Story.

During the 3-hour episode, Gotti revealed to Drink Champs hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN that he found out that Ashanti was dating Nelly in the early-2000s while watching a basketball game on television. Gotti, who was married at the time to first wife Debbie Lorenzo, continued to spill intimate details about the alleged affair, claiming that he came up with the melody for the singer's 2002 hit "Happy" in the shower after they slept together.

“We just finished sleeping together or whatever. I’m taking a shower, I’m in the shower, you know a nigga creative after [sex]. I think of the whole track in the shower," Irv Gotti said on Drink Champs. The Murder Inc. Records co-founder then claimed that he called rapper-producer Chink Santana and sang the melody, which they later recorded in the studio. “That record came about because of our energy,” Gotti said about the “feel-good, summertime” song.

Later in the interview, Gotti said that he and the singer-songwriter were “every day for like two years except the day she’s with Nelly," adding that Ashanti was not to blame for his failed marriage.

In May 2009, Gotti released Ashanti from her contract, with singer Lloyd following her lead months later. “I put that girl on,” said Gotti. “So for her to say, I don’t wanna do this no more, I don’t respect it.”

Ja Rule stayed relatively mum during the interview, jumping in once to correct his friend and longtime business partner from calling Ashanti a 'bitch,' but her "What's Luv?" collaborator has since addressed the interview.

“Whatever Irv has with Ashanti is 20 years old, right? I know he was making some points that mean a lot to him, his heart, and soul. But when you keep ranting about somebody 20 years later, it feels like he’s not over the young lady, right?” Joe said in a recent Instagram clip.

He continued, “Also, we didn’t know that they was fucking, right? Cause the whole time I’m there. ‘What’s Luv’, Big Pun record, on tour. I never seen them together like that. Now I’m not saying that they wasn’t, they was. I never seen it, but I don’t need to know! Now, it’s okay if it’s in a documentary. You gotta say your truth in your documentary. But to go to Drink Champs and to keep calling her a bitch, keep disrespecting.”

Ja Rule commented on the backlash on Instagram, writing, “STOP saying I didn’t defend sis and all women when I clearly told Gotti stop calling Ashanti/women the B word same way I told Joe at Verzuz watch the interview before you talk s***… NOW LEAVE ME TF OUT THESE GROWN FOLK BUSINESSES…"

Ashanti, who hasn't publicly responded on Gotti's comments, performed her 2008 "Body On Me" collaboration with Nelly at Oakland Arena last Friday (August 5).
