Frank Ocean Restocked 'Blonde' Vinyl For First Time Since 2016
Over the weekend, Frank Ocean restocked Blonde vinyl on his official website, complete with a lyrics foldout and foldout poster.
Frank Ocean had a holiday surprise for fans over the weekend. On Saturday (December 17), the Grammy-winning singer restocked Blonde vinyl on his website for the first time since Black Friday 2016, just months after the album's release to streaming platforms.
Although the latest vinyl edition of Blonde has sold out, it features a lyrics insert and poster. Ocean, 35, also dropped t-shirts and posters to accompany the release, with an image of himself sitting at a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop, logos for Blonded Radio and edited shots of Succession actor Jeremy Strong.
Released on August 20, 2016, Blonde is Ocean's sophomore album, since certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album featured uncredited vocals from Beyoncé, André 3000, Sebastian and Ocean's late brother, Ryan Moore, who died in a car accident in 2020.
Ocean refused to submit Blonde for 2017 Grammy Awards consideration, which he spoke about in a rare interview with The New York Times.
“That institution certainly has nostalgic importance. It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down," he told the publication in November 2016.
“I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated,” he added. “I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.”
Next month, Ocean is reportedly wrapping up his directorial debut with production companies A24 and 2AM. The current working title for the film is allegedly Philly and Ocean has eyed New Mexico as a potential filming location.
