Giancarlo Esposito Confirms Talks With Marvel, Wants to Play Professor X

At TJH’s Superhero Car Show & Comic Con, Giancarlo Esposito confirmed that he's met with Marvel Studios and wants to play Professor X.

Marvel Studios has a new candidate for Professor X. While taking audience questions during TJH’s Superhero Car Show & Comic Con on Friday (August 5) — one of them being about his rumored appearance in the X-Men reboot — acclaimed actor Giancarlo Esposito confirmed that he's met with the film and television production company.

“So, I have not worked for Marvel yet,” Esposito told the crowd. “I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing.”

According to IGN, The Mandalorian star also rattled off comic book characters that he could possibly portray, including Magneto and Doctor Doom, but the role he's most interested in fulfilling is Professor X.

“So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of — who else are they talking about over there?” he said. “Oh, Doom! And there is … Professor X. I'm gonna go for something that's a little bit different. I'm gonna go and put it out in the universe that [I'd like to play] Professor X."

Professor X, last appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, portrayed by English actor Patrick Stewart, who first played Professor Charles Xavier in the 2000 film X-Men. During the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that the X-Men reboot, potentially titled The Mutants, will go into production in 2025.
