“Well, we’re here. Tonight is the LA Premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 3. I’m nervous, of course, but mostly excited for all of us, the cast & crew & our friends & families, to sit together in a dark theater & experience the movie together. Den of Geek editor David Crow echoes the sentiment, tweeting that GOTG3 “had a… surprisingly wistful heart,” also celebrating James Gunn’s return to the MCU.
“My reaction to #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 : thank God that James Gunn is back in the MCU. This is easily the best Marvel movie in years and had a real, heartfelt, and surprisingly wistful heart.”— David Crow (@David Crow) 1682647643
Next Best Picture editor complimented Marvel’s eye for detail, calling the “production design and set pieces are some of Marvel’s strongest.”
“GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is full of stakes, emotion & feels like a solid ending (good thing!). The production design & set pieces are some of Marvel’s strongest. It’s long, but the theme of found family is & will always be it’s strength. I’ll miss these misfits 💙 #GotGVol3”— Lauren LaMagna (@Lauren LaMagna) 1682648435
In the new James Gunn-directed film, Marvel states that the “beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life — a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
GOTG3 is the latest MCU Phase 5 film, which will be followed by The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade. Sprinkled in between these theatrical releases are Disney Plus shows Secret Invasion, Loki, What If…?, Ironheart, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again.
GOTG3 comes to theaters on May 5. Read more takes on the film below.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could quite possibly be my new favorite Marvel movie. This movie worked for me on every single level. It’s emotional, funny, and action packed. It reminds you of why we all fell in love with these characters. James Gunn is leaving Marvel on a high…”— Scott Menzel (@Scott Menzel) 1682656225
“James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is beautiful & badass - an awesome conclusion to a damn epic trilogy. The pacing, the music, the heart, the humor, the sadness, the lovable lunacy - Gunn delivers his finest work yet. It’s perfect. #GotGVol3”— Erik Davis (@Erik Davis) 1682657244
“GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 aspires for sweeping emotion, gut busting laughs & thrilling action. It sometimes succeeds but as a send off for all of these characters, it feels strangely uneven & anticlimactic. Features the best makeup & visual effects of the trilogy. #GotGVol3”— Matt Neglia (@Matt Neglia) 1682647525
“GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3, James Gunn bets the house on a, surprisingly, emotional story centered on Rocket and the love and friendship between these characters. Bets and wins. It’s pretty incredible (animal lovers, there are a couple tough scenes) #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3”— Mike Ryan (@Mike Ryan) 1682647456
