Kanye West is taking his presidential campaign to 2024. On Sunday (November 20), the Donda 2 artist announced his presidential bid in a video courtesy of media website X17Online.
“So you are running?” the cameraperson asks in the video, with Ye responding, “Yes…It’s simple,” before adding, “It’s just we’re moving toward the future.”
The rapper-producer will reportedly be partnering with right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos as campaign manager. Yiannopolous, who has interned for Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, is a political commentator recognized for his conservative views against Islam, feminism, and social justice.
Ye formerly ran as an independent candidate in the 2020 election, receiving a meager 70,000 votes across 12 states. Other state election officials, including ones in Arizona and Virginia, were ordered by judges to keep the Grammy Award-winning artist off the ballot. In November of that year, Ye ended his bid, unable to receive enough votes to land him beside the Democratic and Republican parties.
The 2024 presidential campaign announcement follows Ye's recent antisemitic comments, which have landed him in hot water with former business partners including Adidas, Gap, Balenciaga and more. After tweeting "death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE," Ye's Twitter account was deactivated. On Sunday night, the artist briefly returned to the social platform to check if he was "unblocked" after rumors that the app would shut down.
