Kenan Thompson Talks Dave Chappelle's Upcoming SNL Appearance
Kenan Thompson joined The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
On Thursday, Kenan Thompson appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The two discussed their experiences working on Saturday Night Live, the 2019 Christmas episode featuring Dave Chappelle, Tracy Morgan, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock, and more. Chappelle will return to the show, hosting this week's episode in the wake of the 2020 election, his first time hosting since November 2016. Kenan spoke with Fallon about the process leading up to this week's show.
"I mean, who better?" Kenan said, "especially since it's a resurgence of the last four year when he made his appearance. It was just an electric week then, so I know the show Saturday is going to be powerful."
Chappelle hosted the nation's first Saturday Night Live in the Donald Trump era, giving an opening monologue that got mostly rave reviews. "America's done it," he famously said, "You've actually elected an internet troll as our president." This time around, the monologue likely won't be as ominous as 2016's. Joe Biden is projected to wrap up the election in a matter of days, so expect a less tense Dave. According to Kenan, viewers won't be disappointed.
"He made an insane speech before the table read," Kenan continued. "He did the same thing years ago. The guy is just such a prolific speaker. He speaks from the heart and a brilliant mind. He's just a pleasure to be around."
Catch Dave Chappelle and Kenan Thompson on Saturday Night Live, Saturday at 11:30 EST on NBC.
