Kurtis Blow on the Mend After Receiving A Heart Transplant
Kurtis Blow recently underwent successful heart transplant surgery.
On Monday, Kurtis Blow received a heart transplant at a Los Angeles hospital, his wife Shirley Walker told Black Press USA.
"He is out of surgery," she reportedly said in a text. "Keep the prayers and praises up. God does all things well."
The 61-year-old MC has a history of heart troubles, and in the past few years has faced numerous health scares. In 2019, he had surgery to repair an aortic artery. The Harlem native would have to undergo two procedures. Back in March, he spoke on a ruptured spleen that caused his second emergency surgery in two years.
"Last week I had another emergency surgery," he said on Instagram. "My spleen was bleeding into my stomach. I went to the ER just in time because my wife made me go. I wanted to go in the morning. The surgeon said I was lucky to make [it] in time. They took out my spleen and saved my life."
In 2016, Blow suffered multiple heart attacks at a bus stop in San Fernando Valley, California. According to him, the 2020 surgery was his seventh time going under the knife.
"I am in recovery now," he continued. "I am in recovery now and I thank God for the great physician and Dr. Jamali. The great surgeon Dr. Schriver and all the nurses and assistants at West Hills Hospital. Thanks to my wife and fam for all your prayers. Thank God for still another chance. 7 operations. A cat with 9 lives--Amen!"
