"Unlike Any Other Marvel Movie:" Read the First Reactions to the MCU's 'Eternals'
Eternals made its big premiere in LA. Response to the movie, which has the most diverse Marvel cast ever, has been strong.
We are three weeks out from the release of Marvel's most ambitious (and risky) movie to date — Eternals.
With Eternals, fans are being introduced to a new collection of super heroes. The Eternals are an immortal alien race who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years (And sat out all that pesky Avengers: Endgamestuff.). Not only are they making their feature film debut but we're pretty sure only diehard fans of the comics are familiar with the characters.
The movie made its premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, October 19th. Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao and the stacked cast — including Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie — were there for the premiere. Selected members of the press were also in attendance. And although the official embargo doesn't lift until October 24, 11 a.m. PT, there have been a bunch of early reactions about the movie on Twitter.
And, unsurprisingly, the response has been quite positive. There seems to be two truisms: the movie is unlike any other Marvel movie. And that Eternals has a massive scope, with the movie covering thousands of years of history.
“Marvel’s #Eternals is spectacularly weird & rich w/ a new MCU mythology that makes it feel separate from everything else. It’s honestly refreshing. There’s a bittersweetness to the film that you feel in its sunset shots - a definite Chloé Zhao touch. It is soulful & thoughtful”— Erik Davis (@Erik Davis) 1634619602
“There’s A LOT of story to devour in #Eternals (it spans thousands of years!), but Zhao does a good job balancing it all. Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry & Kumail Nanjiani were my favs, but everyone is good & they all have fascinating powers. Some truly great character moments, too”— Erik Davis (@Erik Davis) 1634619602
“Just got out of #Eternals. I've never been so invested in a story. It was cinematically beautiful. I was engaged the entire time. There's a lot to ingest but they do such a great job to process it all. This feels so different from the MCU, like it's own universe. I loved it.”— Laura ลอร'า 劳拉 (@Laura ลอร'า 劳拉) 1634619605
“#Eternals is surprising, epic, beautiful yet dense. It takes some big swings, sometimes feels like a DC film (not a criticism), other times feels like no other superhero movie ever. I wish I had a glowing quick reaction to offer you but I’m left with more complex thoughts.”— Peter Sciretta (@Peter Sciretta) 1634621017
“With the sweeping visuals by Chloé Zhao and an ensemble filled with actors that feel destined for the MCU, #Eternals is unlike any other Marvel movie. So many great twists and the chemistry of the cast really make this movie one to watch”— Nora Dominick (@Nora Dominick) 1634620622
“#Eternals is a whole lot of movie.

It’s shot with a massive scope, looking visually different (and more intimate) than anything else Marvel. It has laughs, great surprises, and heart to go with the gigantic, crowded story it unpacks.

Chloé Zhao has a really unique visual stamp.”— The Brandalorian (@The Brandalorian) 1634620244
“#Eternals , which I really enjoyed for its tremendous ensemble, is objectively the sexiest movie Marvel has ever made. As in an actual sex scene (very G rated tho). Two men kissing. Richard Madden and Angelina's faces.”— Matt Donnelly (@Matt Donnelly) 1634624821
Plot details were pretty sparse. However there was one detail — which fans are calling a spoiler — revealed
Warning, spoiler alert. We repeat — SPOILER ALERT.
One of the details revealed is information about the post credit scene. There is an appearance from Thanos' brother, Ethos, who will be played by pop superstar Harry Styles. Matt Donnelly, a film writer for Variety, broke the news (to the dismay of MCU fans.)
“Big reveal from #TheEternals premiere -- Harry Styles has joined the MCU as Eros, brother of Thanos.”— Matt Donnelly (@Matt Donnelly) 1634619705
“The #Eternals post-credits scenes got wild, loud reactions from the crowd.

They’re both really, really exciting.”— The Brandalorian (@The Brandalorian) 1634620309
Eternals comes out on November 5th. And it's the first MCU movie since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in September. Watch the final trailer for Eternals below.
