Vanessa Bryant Addresses Meek Mill's "Insensitive" Kobe Bryant Lyric
Vanessa Bryant shared an official statement on her Instagram calling out Meek Mill for his insensitive lyrics in a recent track.
Vanessa Bryant has called out Meek Mill for a line in a track that fans viewed as insensitive towards Kobe Bryant.
The song by Lil Baby referenced the death of Kobe which took place over a year ago due to a helicopter crash in which the retired NBA star, his daughter, and nine others also lost their lives.
In a clip from the track titled "Kobe," Meek says, "I'll go out with my choppa." He also says, "It'll be another Kobe."
On Monday night, Vanessa Bryant released the following statement on her Instagram Stories:
“Dear @meekmill, I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period. I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better that this. If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.”
Following this, Meek Mill shared that he'd apologized to Bryant over on Twitter. "I apologized to her in private earlier today not to the public...Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman!" He also wrote, "If you care about someone grieving change the subject!"

Over the last few months, Meek Mill has been in hot water over a few different reasons. He's clashed with Tekashi 6ix9ine online and in-person, argued with fans on Clubhouse, and also has been lambasted for a minor donation to a group of boys fundraising in Atlanta.
Given the fact that the world is still shocked by Bryant's January 2020 death, it comes as no surprise that the line was immediately critiqued online. It is unclear whether Meek plans to scrap the line before its release.
In a series of tweets released after Bryant's statement Meek shared a thought that could be unrelated to the backlash he received. The tweet read, "I’m going back savage in this shit…f#%k ya feelings!" Following this, he also shared, "it becomes a trend to hate on me every once in a while but I feed off that shit ima beast literally."

The same day the Lil Baby track surfaced, Meek Mill tweeted, "Somebody promo a narrative and y'all follow it." He added, "Y'all internet antics cannot stop me...they paying to influence y'all now. It's almost like mind control. Wake up."
