Meek Mill Leaves Roc Nation Management After 10 Years
After 10 years of being on Roc Nation Management, Meek Mill has departed from the entertainment agency founded by JAY-Z.
Meek Mill's time on Roc Nation Management has ended. One year following the end of his incarceration in April 2018, Mill joined Roc Nation founder JAY-Z to create Reform Alliance, a non-profit organization seeking to end wrongful sentencing laws in the United States. Also in 2019, Meek began a joint venture with Roc Nation Management for his label Dream Chasers Records, where he became president.
Although it has not been disclosed why Mill left the entertainment agency, Billboard reports that the rapper had frustrations with Atlantic Records and the under-promotion of his 2021 album Expensive Pain.
“They didn’t put nothing into expensive pain and then said I can’t drop another project for 9 months at the end of my contract after I made them 100’s of millions ….. how would can anybody survive that … most rappers can’t speak because they depend on these companies “I don’t," he tweeted in February of this year.
“They didn’t put nothing into expensive pain and then said I can’t drop another project for 9 months at the end of my contract after I made them 100’s of millions ….. how would can anybody survive that … most rappers can’t speak because they depend on these companies “ I don’t””— MeekMill (@MeekMill) 1643748486
The rapper alleged that the release of his latest album was "blackballed," also claiming that Atlantic Records created tension between himself and Roddy Ricch.
“So look I made Atlantic records 100’s of millions and let them rape me out out Roddy a artist they came to me about in jail … they still saying I can’t drop music until 9 months after my last album got blackballed just wrapped buildings and Nina art with talent.”
He added, “Roddy my youngin still …. But that label seperated us instantly when the millions came in from him… same thing they tried to do with me and rozay … it takes a long time to catch up too because most of em tied in for the love of some money …artist scared to speak up.”
On Monday (June 11), Meek clarified on Twitter that he's on good terms with Roc Nation and Maybach Music Group, doubling down on his dissatisfaction with Atlantic Records.
“And roc nation is my family don’t mix my post aimed at Atlantic mixed up with roc or MMG …they ain’t stop nothing I’m doing we made about a 100m together des mike and Hov saved my life b4 And put a lot of energy into it I’m not behind on my favors in life wit my people I’m good”— MeekMill (@MeekMill) 1657568942
