Here's the First Look at 'Spider-Man: Miles Morales' for PlayStation 5
Sony hasn't announced an official release date or price details.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse quickly became one of the company's most successful films in 2018. On Thursday, Sony gave fans their first look at Miles Morales on a next-generation console.
Insomniac Games released the official trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales during Sony's PlayStation 5 unveiling. The sneak peek features "On My Own," from Jaden Smith's ERYS album featuring Kid Cudi. While the trailer doesn't feature gameplay footage, the PlayStation 5's graphics are a sight to behold.
While the Miles Morales character has been a part of the Spider-Man comics for years, fans got an introduction in 2018. Into the Spider-Verse follows an Afro-Latino teenager from Brooklyn adjusting to his new life at a private boarding school. The film grossed over $375 million on a $90 million budget. Spider-Verse was the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win an Oscar for Best Animated Picture since Rango in 2011. The film beat out Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet, making it the first animated film since 2006's Happy Feet to beat out Disney and Pixar films.
While Sony didn't officially announce a release date for the console, many expect the PlayStation 5 to go on sale for the 2020 holiday season. However, the lack of gameplay footage across the board could suggest a longer-than-expected wait.
An Into the Spider-Verse sequel is set for an October 7, 2022 release. In April 2019, Sony Pictures Television signed a five-year deal with the film's producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, to create an animated television series following the new Spider-Man.
