Netflix Will Release At Least One Comedy Special Every Week This Year
Unless you're doing it for the atmosphere (and you should,) midweek trips to The Comedy Cellar at ungodly hours will no longer be requisite to seeing your stand-up hero. Chances are they've got an upcoming Netflix special. According to The Verge, the streaming giant has plans to double last year's output of 25 specials by releasing (at least) one in every week of 2017.
Yesterday we learned that two of Dave Chappelle's reported three upcoming specials would be arriving on March 21st. Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Jerry Seinfeld, Louis C.K., Tracy Morgan and Sarah Silverman are just the shortlist of stars with confirmed specials heading to Netflix this year, some of them also promising multiple outings. Scripted comedies -- Aziz Ansari's Master of None, Judd Apatow's Love, Tina Fey's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and others -- are also slated for a return.
Most of these release dates have yet be revealed, but it shouldn't be long now. Last year, Netflix promised to double it's original content in 2017, and is clearly doing just that. Stay tuned for updates on all of these specials and more. Jump back to peep the teaser for Chappelle's new specials.
