Nicki Minaj Takes Lead Role As ‘Lady Danger’ In Upcoming 50 Cent-Produced Animated Series
Nicki Minaj will voice the eponymous character in an upcoming 50 Cent-produced Animated Show based on the comic 'Lady Danger.'
Queens get the money. Nicki Minaj and 50 Cent have teamed up for new Amazon Freevee animated series Lady Danger, where the Queen Radio host will play the titular character. The upcoming show comes from the Dark Horse Comics series of the same name, created by Archie writer Alex de Campi.
“For the morning crowd: my comic LADY DANGER is getting made into a series by 50 Cent (via his production company G-Unit) with Nicki Minaj exec producing and voicing one of the major characters. It’ll be on FreeVee. Here’s a little more about it, and what’s happening!”— Alex de Campi (@Alex de Campi) 1681387360
Executive produced by both Minaj and 50 Cent as part of G-Unit Film & Television production company, Lady Danger will be animated by Starburns Industries.
According to Deadline, the story takes place in 2075 and follows an “agent who is left for dead by her team after discovering a dangerous secret, only to be resurrected as Lady Danger, an Afrofuturistic ass-kicking Agent of B.O.O.T.I. (Bureau of Organized Terrorism Intervention).” The outlet says the heroine keeps her identity a secret while facing “villains who are destroying the earth and its vulnerable inhabitants.”
Lady Danger wouldn’t mark Minaj’s first time as a voice actor. The rapper, actress, and mother-of-one has appeared in animated shows The Cleveland Show and Steven Universe. Her theatrical efforts in animation include 2012’s Ice Age: Continental Drift and 2019’s The Angry Birds Movie.
50, who has long supported Minaj throughout her career, last spoke to Billboard in February about the rapper’s competitive streak.
“The way I had competitive energy: Hip-hop culture makes you battle,” he told Billboard. “I love Nicki Minaj, but the funny shit is, I like watching her when she’s upset. I like that because she has something that comes from the experience of living in South Jamaica.”
He continued, “I’m looking at it like, ‘Yo, I know they think she’s nuts, but they only think that because they don’t understand.’ I get it. She thinks you’re trying to play her.”
