Open Mike Eagle is hosting a new Comedy Central show alongside Baron Vaughn.
Titled The New Negroes With Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle (the title takes its name from the Alain Locke book The New Negro), the show will feature stand-up sets and an original song and music video by Open Mike Eagle and a musical guest, according to Pitchfork. The songs will then be released digitally with the broadcast of each episode.
"That book was a collection of essays, poetry, fiction, and music from a generation of emerging artists credited with launching the Harlem Renaissance," Vaughn and Mike wrote in a statement. "It was a place where black people could define themselves instead of being defined by others. Our show aspires to do the same with stand-up comedy, music, and music videos. We're paying homage to that original movement by inviting comedians and musicians to do what they do best: speak."
The show will have guest appearances from MF Doom, Hannibal Buress, Danny Brown, Lizzo, Father, Phonte, Method Man, and more. A trailer for the forthcoming show also includes appearances from a handful of black comedians including Sasheer Zamata, Lil Rel Howery, Kenny and Keith Lucas, and others.
The New Negroes With Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle arrives on April 19.
