OutKast to Release Expanded Edition of 'Stankonia' For 20th Anniversary
The expanded edition will feature unreleased OutKast remixes, instrumentals, and more.
This year, Halloween will mark the 20th anniversary of the Grammy-winning OutKast album Stankonia. In honor of the milestone, Sony Music is releasing an expanded edition of the album, featuring unreleased remixes, a cappella versions, as well as instrumentals. Pre-order vinyl copies of the album at Vinyl Me Please.
The album's hit singles, "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)," "Ms. Jackson," and "So Fresh, So Clean," will be re-released in new bundles that will be made available on digital streaming services on Friday, October 30. The "B.O.B." bundle will include three remixes, one by DJ Cutmaster Swiff, one from Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against The Machine, and one by the Beat Bullies.
The "Ms. Jackson" bundle features the original radio mix, a remix by Mr. Drunk, a cappella, and "Sole Sunday" with Goodie Mob. "Sole Sunday" originally appeared on the Any Given Sunday soundtrack. The "So Fresh, So Clean" bundle features the remix with Snoop Dogg, Raptile's Cryptotech remix, as well as a cappella and instrumental versions.
"The music was both grounded and out-of-this-world," Sony said in a statement. "A singular combination of the carnal, the ethereal and the spiritual, wrapped in wit, compassion and soul. Stankonia raised the bar and rewrote the rules for 21st [century] popular music."
The album has been certified four times platinum by the RIAA, selling over 4 million copies in the United States. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart.
