Disney's New Anime 'Star Wars: Visions' Looks Stunning

All nine episodes of Star Wars: Visions will premiere on Disney+ on September 22nd, 2021.

Star Wars has officially gotten an anime makeover.

Disney+ has released the first trailer for its new show Star Wars: Visions. And it looks amazing. The show will be an anime, featuring nine short stories centered inside the extended Star Wars universe. These episodes — or short films — have different animators, casts, and writers.

Some of the animators include Kamikaze Douga, TRIGGER, Twin Engine’s Geno Studio, Science Saru, and more.

For the dubbed version of the anime, you can expect to hear performances from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brian Tee, Lucy Liu, and more. Unlike other Disney+ shows — like The Mandalorian or MCU shows like WandaVision and LokiStar Wars: Visions will be introduced to the world all at once, on September 22nd, 2021.

Here is a list of the episodes featured;

  • “The Duel”
  • “Lop and Ochō”
  • “Tatooine Rhapsody”
  • “The Twins”
  • “The Elder”
  • “The Village Bride”
  • “Akakiri”
  • “T0-B1”
  • “The Ninth Jedi”

There were originally supposed to be 10 episodes. But Lucasfilm decided to combine two of those shows, both done by Production I.G, the minds behind Ghost in a Shell, into "The Ninth Jedi."

According to James Waugh, Vice President of Content and Strategy at Lucasfilms, these nine episodes won't fit into any already established timeline. At Anime Expo Lite in July, Waugh said:

“We really wanted to give these creators a wide creative berth to explore all the imaginative potential of the Star Wars galaxy through the unique lens of anime... We realized we wanted these to be as authentic as possible to the studios and creators who are making them, made through their unique process, in a medium they’re such experts at. So the idea was, this is their vision riffing off all the elements of the Star Wars galaxy that inspired them — hopefully to make a really incredible anthology series, unlike anything we’ve seen before in the Star Wars galaxy.”
