'Stranger Things' Previews First Episode of New Season

A week ahead of the Stranger Things 4 premiere, on Friday, Netflix dropped an 8-minute sneak peek of the first episode.

Stranger Things 4 is on the horizon. A week prior to the new season's premiere, Netflix has debuted the first eight-minutes of the episode as a sneak peek.

With seven of nine episodes, the first volume of the new series will release to Netflix on May 27th. The remaining two episodes will drop as part of Volume 2 of the season on July 1st.

According to Tudum, in an episode of Netflix podcast Present Company with Krista Smith, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer hinted that the new season would have a strong "horror" vibe in comparison to earlier seasons.

“When we pitched it to Netflix all those years ago, we pitched it as the kids are...The Goonies in E.T.,” explained Ross. “That’s their storyline. And the adults are in Jaws and Close Encounters and then the teens are in Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween. But, this year, we don’t have the kids. We can’t do The Goonies anymore. And so, suddenly, we’re leaning much harder into that horror movie territory that we love. It was fun to make that change.”

In more season four news, it looks like a Monopoly game tie-in has leaked online, containing huge plot spoilers. Although the game is not currently available in-store, it's speculated that fans can purchase the game online. Sources have claimed that The Duffer Brothers were not consulted about the game and had a "total meltdown" about spoilers, per The Hollywood Reporter. The Reddit user who purchased the game says it was bought at “a nationally recognized retailer and purchased fair and square by a consumer. Nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample.”

Stranger Things has also been renewed for a fifth season, which will be the show's last.
