"The MCU Is Jonathan Majors' Franchise Now:" Here are the Early Reactions to 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania'
Critics are praising Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the introduction to Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The social embargo has lifted on new Marvel Studios film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and fans are calling it the perfect introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Five. On Monday (February 6), the Ant-Man world premiere was held at Los Angeles' Regency Westwood Theatre, where new franchise star, Jonathan Majors, stole the show with his portrayal as supervillain Kang the Conqueror.
In a red carpet interview with PA Media via Yahoo! News, Majors was asked what drew him to playing Kang.
“I believe quite deeply that we contain multitudes, that the human being, the homosapien, is probably the greatest invention that will ever be," he said.
Majors continued, “There’s no AI, there’s nothing that can top us, and with Kang there is this idea of variance, this idea of living multiple lifetimes, and there’s a lot of dream fulfillment in that.

It appears that Majors' arrival to the MCU resonated with critics, including Brian Davids of The Hollywood Reporter, who tweeted, "Like all his other roles, Jonathan Majors remains endlessly compelling."
“There comes a point where every franchise has to get weird, and the MCU has done just that with #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania. Like all his other roles, Jonathan Majors remains endlessly compelling. 👍👍”— Brian Davids (@Brian Davids) 1675746333
Dempsey Pilot, editor-in-chief of The DisInsider agreed, tweeting that "Jonathan Majors effortlessly conquers every second of screen-time he gets," also acknowledging lead Paul Rudd and screenwriter Jeff Loveness.
“Had a blast with #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania Paul Rudd has never been better & Jonathan Majors effortlessly conquers every second of screen-time he gets, BUT the real star of the film is Jeff Loveness’ script: a reminder of how beautifully strange & mysterious the MCU still is.”— Dempsey Pillot (@Dempsey Pillot) 1675746009
Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) and Majors are joined by Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, with Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer reprising their roles as Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Kathryn Newton also joins the cast as Lang’s daughter, Cassie.
Here's the synopsis: Ant-Man and the Wasp find themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that pushes them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania comes to theatres on February 13.

“#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania is the best of the trilogy. Higher stakes, dangers & repercussions. Its also got one the best MCU villains in #Kang. As soon as #JonathanMayors comes in, its his show. Kang is a scary lean-mean multiverse big baddie. Also, 2 cool post credits scenes.”— Fico (@Fico) 1675746053
“Marvel’s #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania is a strong start to Phase 5. I now understand why it’s called #Quantumania. JonathanMajors is excellent as Kang and cannot wait to see where this all goes. 2 after the credits scenes and both are very good.”— Steven Weintraub (@Steven Weintraub) 1675748224

“After a frustratingly rough act 1, #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania finally gets going, only to end where this story should’ve began. While the external stakes are clear & weighty, emotional drive felt slight (and levity even lighter). That said, Jonathan Majors rules.”— Courtney Howard (@Courtney Howard) 1675746805
“#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania kicks off Marvel’s Phase Five with a vivid but messy spectacle. It never quite finds its footing and relies on style over substance, the quality never matching the confidence. Jonathan Majors’ Kang is solid but the overall film is sadly just… okay.”— Simon Thompson (@Simon Thompson) 1675748113
“#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania was well balanced and fast paced. I loved the father/daughter moments in the movie. Jonathan Majors is a beast as Kang. With Black Panther and now #AntManAndTheWasp it feels like @MarvelStudios is back on track. Excited to see it again!”— Emmanuel Gomez (@Emmanuel Gomez) 1675746654
