The Roots to Host A Digital Jam Session With Ari Lennox, Tobe Nwgiwe, and More

The Roots and a few special guests will put on a virtual jam session on March 13th.

On Thursday, The Roots announced a partnership with Tidal and Oculus for their annual Roots Jam Session. The event will take place on March 13th, the night before the Grammys. This year's lineup includes Ari Lennox, Tobe Nwgiwe, Ant Clemons, Emily King, Jon Batiste, Brittany Spencer and Kathy Sledge. The event is available in virtual reality: Oculus Quest owners can subscribe to watch the event in the Venues app. TIDAL subscribers and non-subscribers alike can watch the event on the platform.

The Roots Jam Session has been going on for over a decade. This year, to deal with extenuating circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's event will be produced by Live Nation Urban, ESM Productions and Tina Farris.

The Roots have created an Essentials playlist on TIDAL to prepare fans for the experience.

The pandemic hasn't slowed down the group. Two weeks ago, Questlove announced that he'd be hosting a MasterClass on the art of DJing and music curation. Just before that, he premiered his Sly Stone documentary Summer of Soul at Sundance, winning the festival's top prize for documentaries. The doc has been picked up for $12 million by Disney's Searchlight and Hulu. The sale marked a record for documentaries at the festival. Back in October, Black Thought released the long-awaited Streams of ThoughtVol. 3 album to rave reviews.

Stay tuned for further updates on The Roots' Jam Session and expected guests.
